Set Design I, Fall 2022 In this monologue adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, a modern-day Poet is destined to retell the story of the Trojan War as long as humans wage wars. Exploring the metatheatricality of the piece and the idea of purgatory spaces, my impulses led me to bunkers– they are historical places of gathering and waiting throughout war, and mirror the way theatre serves as a unifying force. My final design was based on research into DIY family nuclear bunkers of the Cold War era. An immersive seating plan allows the audience to feel as if they are in this bunker with the Poet, listening and waiting out the war that wages beyond its walls.
