Botanicircus
circus costume concept by Jade Lo
venue: New York Botanical Garden

Costume Design I, Fall 2022

As my final project for my Costume Design class, I was tasked with developing a concept for a circus and rendering three performers. I chose to set my circus at the New York Botanical Garden. I drew inspiration from New York native plants and flowers in my designs, color palettes, and aesthetics. The result is Botanicircus, a fantastical production exploring the secret life that flourishes at the garden floor. My ringleader is the gardener and cultivator of this circus world. With her golden rose baton (based on the NY state flower), she will activate performers including a bluebell acrobat and hibiscus clown.
